More than 95 explosives industry professionals and eight exhibitors filled the Birmingham Marriott Hotel in Birmingham, Ala., on Thursday, May 12 and Friday, May 13 for the second Southeast Blasting Workshop.
Held by the ISEE and supported by the Alabama Chapter, the popular event included a networking reception Wednesday evening. The workshop included a full day of presentations covering best drilling practices; interpreting seismograph data; transportation; electronic detonators; and updates from ATF and MSHA. Workshop attendees qualified for blaster’s training recertification hours from Alabama, Ohio, Tennessee, Virginia, and West Virginia. Sponsors included Four Star Blasting Mats Inc.; Sauls Seismic Inc.; NOMIS Seismographs; Austin Powder Company; Nelson Brothers; and TN Volunteer ISEE Chapter.
The deadline to submit an application for one of the SEE Education Foundation scholarships ended June 1, 2016. Qualified students will be considered for an award among 26 funds.
The SEE Education Foundation is a nonprofit organization created in 1996 to serve the long-term education interests of the explosives industry through the development of education and training materials, championing the inclusion of explosives instruction in engineering curricula and awarding scholarships to eligible students.
